Our Story

Our Origin

Mararani Foundation Group was established to address critical development gaps affecting our community. Recognizing that youth represent 65% of Lamu Island's population yet remained largely excluded from decision-making processes, we launched this initiative to create pathways for meaningful participation.

Our foundation emerged from extensive community consultations, where residents identified five critical priority areas: environmental conservation, youth empowerment, digital inclusion, sports development, and civic education. These aren't arbitrary choices—they're grounded in rigorous community needs assessments.

Our Journey

Inception & Community Consultation

2023 - Early 2024

Conducted extensive stakeholder consultations involving 150+ community members, local leaders, and youth. Identified priority areas through participatory needs assessments and established founding principles centered on data, accountability, and community ownership.

Program Launch & Pilot Initiatives

Mid 2024

Launched our first environmental program (beach cleanups + mangrove restoration), commenced digital literacy classes, and organized the inaugural sports tournament. Enrolled 180+ youth across programs within 6 months.

Scaling & Institutional Development

Late 2024 - 2025

Expanded to 5 thematic areas, formalized organizational governance, established monitoring & evaluation systems, and increased beneficiary reach to 650+. Developed comprehensive impact measurement framework aligned with SDGs.

Sustainability & Expansion

2025 Onwards

Building strategic partnerships, diversifying funding, developing youth-led social enterprises, and establishing regional headquarters. Committed to long-term community transformation through sustainable, locally-driven solutions.
